Who is Rick?

Rick X Hoops (they/he) is a queer multidisciplinary performing artist and management professional living in Minnesota. After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Theater from Saint Olaf College, Rick began working as a performer, music educator, and director in the Twin Cities. After several years, Rick returned to academic life, completing a Masters of Professional Studies in Arts & Cultural Leadership from the University of Minnesota and a Graduate Certificate in Equity & Diversity.

While working through their Masters studies, Rick developed event planning and operational management expertise while working at the Gender & Sexuality Center for Queer & Trans Life. They advocated for the needs of queer students, faculty, and staff at UMN and continue to center intersectional, care-focused practices in all their work. Rick also developed a variety of young artist programs while working at Minnesota Opera and has experience teaching private voice students ages 4-65. This gives them a unique perspective in working with a variety of demographics.

Rick has lived many lives, having also been a nationally-ranked slam poet, a longtime clown (yes, really), and a yoga teacher. These experience enrich Rick’s approach to creative business consulting, bringing open communication, humor, and embodiment to everything they do. Outside of their professional responsibilities, Rick loves being active, reading, and doting over their orange cat, Vincent.
